On this week’s edition of Love Your Local, we joined agent Abby Breau as she showed us Strangeways in New Haven.
In an age of fast fashion and major corporations ripping off independent artists, Strangeways is a breath of fresh air. Located in downtown New Haven, they proudly support over 100 independent designers, artists, and small brands.
Strange Ways is a curated shop selling unique and memorable items for your wardrobe and home, often stamped with an irreverent, fun vibe.
Launched online in 2014, their ethos is to focus on smaller statement pieces like pins and patches that make it easy to add a bit of flair to everyday life. Working with 100+ independent artists and designers allows for a constantly rotating selection of new and fresh products to help you express your style.
The shop was founded in 2014 by Alex Dakoulas, a lifestyle designer whose past work includes creating products for Converse and Puma. Strange Ways has been fortunate enough to be featured in such publications as Refinery29, GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, Seventeen Magazine, Design*Sponge, BUST Magazine, and StyleCaster.
Pro tip: Bring any of your personal items (backpacks, sweatshirts, etc.) to get patchwork done on.

Shout out to Abby Breau for introducing us to one of the coolest spots in New Haven! Do you have a place you think should be featured in Love Your Local? Let us know in the comments!
